napping with out the car seat carrier?
My son is almost 8 months old and almost too big for his car seat carrier. What do I do now to get him to nap when we are away from home? If we lay him on the floor to nap, he tries to explore everything and gets more tired. The only ideas I have are not being away when it is his nap/bed time, or having him sleep in his car seat in the car, neither of which will work very well for us. What do you suggest?
Oops, I guess that didn’t come out quite right. I didn’t mean leaving him in the car to nap, but to take him for a drive or something so that he can nap if we are away. Thanks for pointing that out to me.
A sling! Not those silly front carrier snugli things, but a true baby sling that can be worn in multiple positions. You’ll get the most options with a wrap, though there’s some figuring out to do. Baby will nap, and you’ll get hands free.
Or, let him sleep in the car seat. You’d be amazed how many times I was able to move my son from car seat to bed without him waking. Or, couch to stroller works well, since the stroller can be slightly reclined instead of completely flat. That’s what babies like about the carrier – its not lying flat. Also – if you really want to keep the carrier and money isn’t an issue, get a Graco Safeseat1. Its a carrier, but it goes up to 30lbs, instead of the usual 20-22lbs. It claims to be the only seat on the market to fit 99% of babies until at least their first birthday. Most carriers only fit the average baby until they are 4-6 months old. If your child still fits at 8 months, he’d likely be able to use the Safeseat1 until 15 months or so, but its over $100 even on sale, so definitely not a bargain for a seat you won’t get to use for very long.
Take a bouncy seat with you, but a travel basinette.
Which is a better car seat carrier frame for the Graco snugride?
Would you go with the Graco snap’n'go or the Kolcraft universal car seat carrier? Or something else? And how is the Kolcraft made to be secure–where does the belt strap onto?
I live in a city and need a car seat for taxis — and don’t want an extra stroller till the baby outgrows it!
I’d just go with the snap ‘n go to be consistent. However, why buy two strollers? I’d get a metrolite stroller from Graco so you only have to purchase one stroller for your baby as he/she gets older.
