Could I use a weekend bag instead of a diaper bag?

I have been searching and searching for a diaper bag I like, but I’m not having any luck. This is my first child so I am not familiar with diaper bag styles. Could I use a weekend bag instead? Or are there special compartments in a diaper bag that I will find useful?

diaper bag?

I am babysitting for my sister over the summer – other than diapers – what should I make sure I pack in the diaper bag

A few diapers, travel baby wipes and diaper rash cream (they make small tubs) are the essentials.

In my diaper bag, I also have a stain sick (travel size, highly recommend it), few grocery-store bags (for those really messy diapers), extra bib and burp cloth and a changing pad.

I also pack a extra undershirt and an alfit, blanket, sippy cup & snacks (my daughter is older now), but I pack those before I leave. If the baby is younger, bottles, water and formula.
